Sneads man sentenced to life in prison, three times over

Buckie O’Neil Barnes

A Sneads man has received three life sentences on the charges of sexually battering and abusing a child on several different occasions, says State Attorney Larry Basford.

The State Attorney’s Office reported that 32-year-old Buckie O’Neil Barnes, of Sneads, was found guilty of six charges of crimes committed against a girl under 12-years of age.

Barnes has been convicted of two counts of sexual battery on a person less than 12 years of age, and one count each of lewd or lascivious molestation, lewd or lascivious battery, lewd or lascivious exhibition and  hild abuse.

Barnes was found guilty of these charges in November, and sentenced last Thursday, January 20 by Circuit Judge James Goodman.

The state attorney’s office says Judge Goodman gave Barnes three life sentences on the first three offenses and then a combined 35 years in prison for the last three offenses; the sentences will run consecutively.

The Sneads Police Department and the Gulf Coast Children’s Advocacy Center investigated this case after the victim revealed the abuse during the investigation of another case.
