Irma Jean Lett, 89, passed peacefully into her heavenly reward on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at home in Gadsden County, surrounded by her children.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. EDT on Friday, August 1, at Bevis Funeral Home, with interment following at Tallahassee Memory Gardens. Family and friends are invited to the visitation on Thursday, July 31, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bevis Funeral Home, 200 John Knox Road, Tallahassee.
Jean was born on February 21, 1936, in Vidalia, Georgia, the first child of Clifford and Tommie Mary Whittington. She graduated from Leon High School in 1953, where she met her childhood sweetheart and future husband, William “Billy” Lett. The two were married on June 20, 1953, and shared a lifetime of love and devotion.
Known for her kind heart and genuine love for people, Jean dedicated more than 40 years to her work as a pharmacy technician at Barfield’s, Rite Aid, and Medical Center Pharmacy. She kept a well-worn notebook filled with the phone numbers of friends and acquaintances and was always checking in on those she cared about. Jean had a love for collecting cookbooks and baking all kinds of sweet treats to share with those she loved. In her later years, she discovered a passion for loom knitting, creating blankets and hats for family, friends, and anyone in need. Visitors to her home rarely left without a handmade memento or thoughtful gift.
Jean’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. A faithful follower of Jesus Christ, she served as a Sunday School teacher and choir member at Southside Baptist Church and Aenon Baptist Church. In her later years, she attended the Pentecostals of the Capital City, where she received the Holy Ghost and was baptized in Jesus’ name. A Bible or devotional was never far from her chair, reflecting her deep and abiding trust in the Lord.
Jean is survived by her children Jon (Faithe) and Joni (Brian); grandchildren Ryan (LeAnn), Whitney, Brandon (Megan), Taylor (Brandon), and Kyle; and great-grandchildren Jillian, Ava, Ricki Grace, Rylee Ann, and Stella. She is also survived by her siblings Benny (Shirley), Roy (Sally), and Charlotte (Richard), along with many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Tommy, and her devoted husband, Billy.
Irma Jean will be remembered for her unwavering faith, boundless generosity, and the warmth she brought into the lives of everyone who knew her.
