The Pirates senior banners were freshly hung on the football field’s fence, the aroma of food filled the air, and music hyped up the fans in the stands. It wasn’t long before the mighty Pirates stormed through a large banner under the goal post as fireworks exploded above them, lighting up the sky.
1st Quarter – Sneads Tyran Thomas (jersey #21) ran in the first score and Pious Reed (jersey #4) rushed in the second and third. With two minutes and six seconds left on the clock in the first quarter Thomas and Reed quickly put a 20-point lead on the scoreboard for their Pirate team. Anthony Hamilton (jersey #56) made haste and ran in a touchdown with 1:41 on the clock. Robert Reglin (jersey #2) lightly jogged a two-point conversion across the line ending the first quarter with a 28-0 lead for the Pirates.
In the 2nd quarter, Aiden Brown attempted to catch the ball in the end zone but missed the pass. Moments later Jamahri Scott ran in a touchdown. The field goal kick was no good but did not leave pirate fans shook at all because at that point their team was up by 34-0. The rest of the game proved the Pirates were not challenged with the competition at all and were happy to claim the title of Jackson County Champions with a 54-0 final outcome as they sent the Tigers home with their third loss of the season.
For many it was great to watch the Pirates rack up the points and win but on the other hand it was disheartening to witness
the young and inexperienced Graceville Tiger team suffer through the slaughter and get shutout with the 54-0 final score. The underdogs just couldn’t manage to even get three points up on the scoreboard. It is commendable that the team continued playing, fought until the very end, and did not choose to forfeit. Perhaps they will do better on their home field this week when they host the North Bay Academy Buccaneers.
The Pirates will be hosting the FAMU Baby Ratters this week at the shipyard. Their chances of winning are high because Baby Rattlers have lost three games in a row, Aucilla Christian Academy, Cottondale High School, and Franklin County High School.
