NURSE JUDY’S NOOK

The JBI
Judy Conlin

There is a mystery that needs to be solved at our house. It has been driving me crazy. I have

no law enforcement background, but I believe that I can do anything if I just push myself. Nurse

Judy, my irrepressible alter ego scoffs at this but I just forge ahead. She says, “You’ll get yourself killed ,” she says. “Yiu don’t know how to deal with criminals.”
I have her there. “No crime has been committed,” I say.  “This is just a mystery. It began about a month before Christmas, and it hasn’t been solved yet. I am just an average citizen, and I have no access to the FBI, so I have decided to be the JBI- the Judy Bureau of Investigation.”
Nurse Judy laughs at this, but I explain to her what the mystery is.  “It began about a month before  Christmas,” I say. ‘A package arrived on my doorstep from Walmart. I had not ordered anything from Walmart. My brother in Ohio had told me if I got any packages from Amazon that I hadn’t ordered I was not to open them but put them under the tree until Christmas as he was sending my gifts that way. This Walmart package must be from him. I notified him that it had arrived, but he said he had ordered nothing from Walmart.
Now I really was confused. I figured I should get fingerprints from the package, but I had no idea how to dust for fingerprints. When I really thought about it, the perpetrator’s prints would not be on it. Someone from the store would have picked it up and packed it. Someone else would have sent it to the truck, and the delivery man would have delivered it. None of their prints would be of help. What should I do next?
I saw on TV that you can call the store and find out who had purchased the item. I wasn’t sure which Walmart to call, but I picked one. It really didn’t matter since they just laughed at me. They said they had never heard of JBI and wouldn’t  be able to help me even after I explained this was a  new agency just set up for this  Christmas emergency.
As you know, Nurse Judy is never a help in any situation so the only team I had to help me sleuth were my 2 cats. They were more than up for the job. They don’t know how to take fingerprints either, but they have another skill that is even more accurate. They have a wonderful sense of smell. They stalked, circled and sniffed that package , even putting paws and claws on it to elicit important information.
I was thrilled by their hard work, but the problem was whoever delivered the package was not the perpetrator and if they could discern that information, they had no way to convey it to me.
I decided that all that was left for my investigation was to put out an APB. I contacted everyone I knew and questioned them. I did not find one I could retain and of course since there was no crime, there was no one to arrest.
On Christmas Day I opened the package with 2 interested sleuths with furry faces by my side. The person who did this has to be someone who knows me well. It was a box of specialized teas in a Harry Potter box. I love tea, tea parties and Harry Potter. Who had escaped my investigation?
I now must turn this over to you, dear readers. Please phone in any tips you have, however trivial they may seem. Someone somewhere knows this adorable person and I need to know who they also to give them a hug.
There will be a reward for anyone giving a tip which leads to the discovery of this perp. That person will receive an invitation to my home to have a cup of that delightful tea from that delightful, as yet unknown person of interest.
I know you will respond. In the meantime, if you have a case that needs solving you may contact the newly formed JBI  and its 2 able sleuths to help you resolve your case.

More later,

Judy
