Gadsden County commissioners greenlight $25 million in construction projects

Gadsden County News Service

The Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners authorized more than $25 million in new construction and renovation projects during its April 7 meeting, marking what officials described as a historic investment in the county’s infrastructure and public services.

The approved funding covers four major initiatives ranging from public safety to youth development and healthcare.

Major Project Allocations

The largest allocation is $18 million for the development of a new Public Safety Complex. The facility is intended to streamline emergency response capabilities and centralize public safety services for the county’s residents.

In a move to bolster community resources, the board also approved:

  • $4 million for the expansion of the Chattahoochee Library, which will include upgrades to technology access and educational programming.
  • $3.8 million for a new Boys and Girls Club to provide mentorship and resources for local youth.
  • $2 million for renovations at the Havana Medical Center, aimed at modernizing the facility to improve healthcare access in the eastern portion of the county.

Leadership Perspective

Chairman Eric Hinson voiced his support for the slate of projects, noting that the investments are intended to drive economic growth and improve the general quality of life.

“There are a lot of positive and exciting things happening in our county, and many of these projects will begin construction this summer,” Hinson said. “This is a historic investment into our community that should make us all proud.”

Hinson credited the collaborative efforts of the commissioners, Interim County Administrator Reginald James, and county staff for moving the projects through the approval process.

Timeline

Construction on several of the initiatives is expected to begin in the coming months. County officials did not provide a specific completion timeline for the individual projects during the announcement.
