Last month, the Havana Garden Club May Yard of the Month honors were awarded to Scott and Kim Nelson for residential and Salem Methodist Church for commercial landscaping excellence.
The Nelsons, of 465 Dogwood Drive, were recognized for their vibrant yard, where striking contrasts of color catch the eye. Their landscape features beds of loropetalum and golden obelia, complemented by elegant Japanese maples throughout the yard.
Kim Nelson shared that the couple began their home renovations from the outside after purchasing the property nearly four years ago. Their efforts have clearly paid off, with a yard that stands out in the neighborhood.
In the commercial category, Salem Methodist Church at 202 9th Avenue East claimed the title once again. Church member Bruce Hatton was credited for the lush and colorful plantings, which include snapdragons, verbena, vinca, lantana, and marigolds.
The Yard of the Month program continues to highlight community pride and the beauty of well-maintained outdoor spaces.
