It’s December, and the Havana Garden Club has selected two local lawns to be the December Yards of the Month for 2023.
Havana residents and business owners have been hard at work, keeping a festive spirit of gardening and decorating around their homes.
Each month, the Havana Garden Club selects a residential and commercial Yard of the Month – awarding the lawn-owners and gardeners with a full month of compliments as one of Havana’s most spectacular gardens.
The December Residential Yard of the Month goes to Earnest and Joyce Deason of 101 Magnolia Circle.
Their impeccably maintained yard shines even brighter in December, adorned with a plethora of blooming camellias and encore azaleas.
“Their yard is always immaculately kept up but this time of the year, it’s particularly beautiful with a multitude of camellias or different varieties blooming all over the yard along with some encore azaleas still putting on a show,” Dianne Croley, who is a member of the garden club, says.
Although they now have someone who mows and edges for them, the Deasons remain actively involved in nurturing their beautiful outdoor space.
They are still seen working in their yard on a regular basis,” Croley notes.
The Havana Main Street office at 316 NW 1st Street, recognized for its creatively adorned pot garden, is honored as Commercial Yard of the Month. Ann Kozeliski, the Main Street executive director, showcased her artistic flair by incorporating found items into the charming display.
Kozeliski said she just went back to the storage area and came up with the decorations, which she added to the existing pot garden.
“You can tell that Ann is an artist from the attractive display she put together from found items,” Croley says.
