Gadsden County School District received an overall grade of “C” for the 2024–25 academic year, according to data released by the Florida Department of Education. Although the district fell short of a “B,” leaders say they are on track to reach that target in the coming year.
The district had received an “I” grade last year under the state’s new progress monitoring system, Florida’s Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST), after not testing enough students. This year’s report marks a full return to the traditional A–F accountability scale.
According to a district press release issued July 7, Superintendent Elijah Key expressed confidence in the district’s direction and leadership team.
“The District is only eightpercentage points (49 percent of total points) away from earning a grade of ‘B’ (57 percent of total points). I believe I have the right individuals in place to move the district’s school grades to the next level and it is my expectation that Gadsden County School District will earn a 2025–2026 district grade of ‘B,’” Key said.
District leaders also highlighted strong performances at several schools. Gadsden Elementary Magnet School maintained an “A” rating, while Crossroad Academy held its “B” grade. George W. Munroe Elementary improved from a “F” to a “C,” and James A. Shanks Middle School moved from a “D” to a “C.” Greensboro Elementary School earned an “A.”
The district credited these achievements to the work of principals, staff, and students. Special commendations were extended to Gadsden Elementary Principal Allyson Davis, Crossroad Academy Principal Dr. Tireshia Galloway, and James A. Shanks Middle School Principal Camry Floyd for their leadership and progress.
The school-by-school breakdown, included in the district’s announcement, shows continued improvement at multiple campuses. District officials say this reflects the impact of their ongoing strategic plan and efforts to raise academic achievement across all grade levels.
