The Havana Garden Club has announced its residential and commercial yards of the month for October.
Carlos and Osiris Castillo, of 207 E. Fourth Ave., received the residential yard of the month honor.
According to the Garden Club, the Castillos’ white cottage was renovated several years ago, and the couple has added color to the property’s garden beds with colorful foliage and blooming plants.
Carlos Castillo credits his wife with the landscaping’s artistic touches, saying she is the one with the “artistic eye.”
Made New Hair and Skin Care, 308 N. Main St., was selected as the commercial yard of the month.
Owner Sarah Banks placed pots filled with fall flowers in front of the shop, creating a seasonal display that caught the Garden Club’s attention.
Garden Club members said they look for live plant displays rather than artificial arrangements when considering properties for the recognition.
