Havana Main Street will usher in the holiday season this weekend with two popular community events — the annual Community Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, Nov. 7, followed by the Holiday Open House on Saturday and Sunday.
The Community Christmas Tree Lighting will take place on the vacant lot at the corner of U.S. Highway 27 and East 7th Avenue. Festivities begin at 4:30 p.m., when the Havana Fire Department starts grilling hamburgers and hot dogs for purchase.
Santa Claus will arrive by fire engine at 5 p.m. to visit with children and pose for photos. The evening will conclude with the tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m., accompanied by holiday music and a chance for neighbors to gather and celebrate the season.
The celebration continues over the weekend as local merchants host the annual Holiday Open House. Shops will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., offering seasonal refreshments and a variety of gift options.
Visitors can register for a shopping spree at participating stores marked with gold stars. Winners of the $50, $150, and $300 gift certificate prizes will be announced Sunday at 4 p.m. in front of the community Christmas tree.
Both events are organized by Havana Main Street and are designed to bring residents and visitors together to celebrate the holidays while supporting local businesses.
