A destructive fire broke out on the afternoon of Friday, April 17, damaging two homes and drawing a large response from local emergency services.

The Havana Volunteer Fire Department and Gadsden County Fire Rescue were dispatched to the scene, where they found one residence heavily engulfed in flames. Due to the intensity of the heat and the close proximity of neighboring structures, the fire quickly spread to a second house.

Mutual Aid Involvement

The fire required a coordinated effort from several regional agencies. In addition to Havana and Gadsden County units, the Concord Volunteer Fire Department was among the departments that responded to provide mutual aid. These additional resources were essential for managing water supply and assisting with scene safety as crews worked to contain the blaze and protect surrounding property.

By late afternoon, firefighters had successfully knocked down the main body of the fire, though both affected structures sustained significant damage.

Status and Investigation

While the damage to the primary residence is extensive, official reports on the specific cause of the fire have not yet been released. No injuries to residents or fire personnel were reported as of Friday evening.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation by the Gadsden County Fire Marshal’s office.

Protecting the Community

The incident occurred as Gadsden County faces heightened fire risks due to dry conditions across the region. Local fire officials continue to urge residents to remain vigilant. The response to this fire comes shortly after the Havana Volunteer Fire Department’s recent improvement in its protection class rating, which moved from a 10 to a 6/6x earlier this spring.
