A 28-year-old Orlando woman died following a single-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on Interstate 10 in Gadsden County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 1:41 p.m. Sept. 12 near mile marker 168.
According to the Highway Patrol, the woman was driving a sedan eastbound in the inside lane when the vehicle left the roadway and entered the median. The sedan struck several trees before coming to a final rest.
The vehicle caught fire after the crash.
The driver was taken to HCA Florida Gadsden Hospital, where she was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash.
A 15-year-old girl from Orlando who was riding as a passenger was taken to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare with minor injuries. Both occupants were wearing seat belts, according to the Highway Patrol.
The inside eastbound lane was temporarily closed while investigators worked at the scene. All travel lanes have since reopened.
Gadsden County Emergency Medical Services and Gadsden County Fire Rescue assisted the Florida Highway Patrol at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
