Pretty Hats & Bow Ties event blends faith and Fashion

Bear Creek Bethel Missionary Baptist Church hosted its biannual Pretty Hats & Bow Ties FUN-raiser on Saturday, April 25, bringing together community members for an afternoon of fellowship, fashion, and fundraising to support a future fellowship hall expansion.
Attendees arrived in vibrant hats and stylish bow ties, turning the sanctuary into a colorful display of creativity and tradition. Sis. Deborah Thigpen presided over the program, guiding participants through a spirit-filled celebration.
The event opened with prayer by Dea. DeWayne Gainous and scripture from 1 Corinthians 11:5–6, read by Bro. Cornell Cummings. Mother Angelia Gainous welcomed guests, setting the tone for the afternoon.
Highlights included poetic readings honoring culture and heritage, with selections by Mother Nadine Reed, Sis. Gloria Leverson, and Sis. Krista Woodard. The Parade of Hats & Bow Ties, led by Sis. Batina Slater, drew enthusiastic applause as participants showcased their styles. A musical solo by Sis. LaTrenda Gainous-Carroll added to the program.
The event concluded with door prizes and closing remarks from Mother Nadine Reed and Sis. Gloria Leverson leaving attendees uplifted and appreciative of the shared experience.
The fundraiser celebrated both fellowship and community outreach in true Bear Creek Bethel fashion. Rev. Terrence D. Milton is pastor.
