A teen has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of Barry Corker Jr., whose body was found May 9 near the intersection of Dewey Johnson Way and Williams Street in Gretna.
According to a joint press release from the Gretna Police Department, Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, 18-year-old Tamarick Jackson of Sneads turned himself in to the Gadsden County Jail on June 12. He has been charged with first-degree premeditated homicide and grand theft of a motor vehicle.
Corker’s death sparked a multi-agency investigation after a passerby discovered his body around 7:30 a.m. on May 9. Investigators later learned that Corker’s white Chevrolet Camaro had been stolen during the incident.
The vehicle was recovered late the same night in the Sycamore area of Gadsden County, following a tip from a resident. FDLE agents and sheriff’s investigators later identified Jackson as a suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Authorities say the charges stem from an incident at a residence on Dewey Johnson Way, where Corker was fatally shot.
According to the arrest report, Gretna Police Department received a call reporting a man was in a ditch in front of the residence.
Court records revealed blood stains on his pants and shirt.
Investigators said it appeared there had been a fight outside the home.
A chair had been overturned, and there were bullet casings and a blood trail from the home’s carport to the body.
The case remains active, and investigators are encouraging anyone with further information to come forward.
