Some Silly Stories
Gwynn Peacock Kidd
Before I start I would like to add one more sentence to last week’s story. Columbus made three voyages to the new world and he still couldn’t find America., just the Carribean.
A friend had a nephew that had gone out with a lady realtor to look at some land. They were riding along and she told him to look at a plot of land. She said “ some dummy paid forty thousand for that plot of land.” He said “I know. I am that dummy”.
My husband and I were traveling from North Bay to Toronto, Ontario. We had a lot of luggage with us, heavy coats, gloves, snow boots and all that heavy gear you have to drag along to a really cold climate. I got the bright idea to have a porter waiting for us at the Toronto terminal to help us get it all to a taxi. I stopped the conductor and asked him if he could have a Red Cap waiting for us at the station. He looked at me sort of funny but I didn’t think anything of it. Later on I saw him again and reminded him to have a Red Cap waiting. He put his hands on his hips, glared at me and said “Lady, I am not going to have a beer waiting for you at Toronto Terminal.” I did not know Red Cap was a brand of beer in Canada. Needless to say, we didn’t get any help with that luggage.
One of my friends thought that a fly had gotten into her apartment. She said after chasing it around she finally realized she was chasing a floater in her eye and not a fly.
Then there was the time I was really stressed. My husband had just recently died and I was in Quincy running errands. I stopped to wait to go and sat there and sat there waiting for it to change. It finally dawned on me that I was sitting in front of a stop sign waiting for it to turn green. I’m glad the guys in white with the butterfly net weren’t around.
Since Peacock is part of my name I am always interested in peacock stories. Here is a funny one for you. There was a town in Georgia named Peacock. Some people in that town decided they did not like the name Peacock for their town and wanted to change it. They had meetings about it and asked people to suggest names. One name they liked was Pavo so they decided to name it Pavo. Great was their surprise when they learned that Pavo is Latin for Peacock.
Now for a little more humor. What did the baby corn ask the mama corn? Where is popcorn?
‘Till next time keep on the sunny side.
