Three people were seriously injured, including one who suffered critical injuries, after a sedan crossed the median and struck a pickup truck head-on Monday morning on U.S. 90 west of River Birch Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at 5:15 a.m. July 13 on eastbound U.S. 90 (State Road 10) in Gadsden County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a westbound sedan traveled out of the inside westbound lane, crossed the grassy median and entered the inside eastbound lane, where it collided head-on with an eastbound pickup truck.
The driver of the sedan, a 24-year-old Quincy man, sustained serious injuries. A 23-year-old Midway man riding in the sedan also suffered serious injuries, while a 20-year-old Quincy man who was a passenger was critically injured.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 49-year-old Quincy man, suffered minor injuries.
All four occupants were transported to a local hospital.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that none of the occupants of the sedan were wearing seat belts. The pickup truck driver was wearing a seat belt.
Following the collision, the sedan rotated clockwise and came to rest facing east, partially blocking the inside eastbound lane and the center grassy median. The pickup truck came to rest in the center median facing east.
The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Midway Fire Department, the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Department of Transportation Road Rangers and Florida Department of Transportation Midway. The inside eastbound lane was closed for approximately 1½ hours while emergency crews responded and cleared the scene.
