A water tank in Gretna damaged by Hurricane Michael in 2018 is now being replaced.
This new tank will hold 350,000 gallons.
The location of this water tank is at 722 Church St.
Construction began right after a ground-breaking ceremony on Tuesday, July 22.
The old tank was built in the 60s and was essential to the City of Gretna’s infrastructure.
With this $2.6 million investment, this new tank will ensure that families and businesses in the community have reliable water service and robust water pressure. This will also play a vital role in emergency preparedness and fire safety.
“We have more water capacity. It helps citizens if we ever have any issues with water. It helps improve the capacity for our drinking water that we have in the city,” said Anthony Baker, City of Gretna Mayor.
This project is expected to be completed after 270 days of construction.
In other news, Gretna officials are also preparing the city’s Interstate 10 Exchange for new business opportunities.
Two weeks ago, the stakeholders broke ground at the site of a brand-new $25 million Loves Travel Center that is expected to bring 75 jobs to the area.
Last week, the city announced that Brinson Road will soon be paved, with new water and sewer lines being constructed.
According to the city’s Facebook page, this major infrastructure investment will prepare nearly 225 acres of land—zoned and ready to welcome new businesses.
