Work is beginning on a more than $8 million road project at U.S. Highway 90 and Dover Road in Midway.
The project will realign Dover Road with Martin Luther King Boulevard and add a traffic signal at the intersection.
Other work includes turn lane improvements, resurfacing, drainage upgrades, sidewalks, pavement markings and lighting. Florida Department of Transportation construction records show the project also includes a new southbound left-turn lane and adjustments to existing turn lanes on U.S. 90.
Midway and state transportation officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Sept. 9 at the intersection to mark the start of construction.
Mayor Ella Parker Dickey, a lifelong Midway resident, said she has wanted to see improvements made at the intersection for years.
“I have been a lifelong resident of the City of Midway and have long hoped to see a safer intersection for our residents and the thousands of motorists who travel through our community each day,” Dickey said. “I am grateful to the Florida Department of Transportation for bringing this project to life and moving forward with construction.”
City Manager Henry Grant said city officials are glad to see the project move into construction after the planning and design process.
“Our Midway team is extremely excited to see this project move from planning and design into construction,” Grant said. “The realignment will help motorists navigate this intersection more safely and efficiently.”
North Florida Asphalt is the contractor for the project.
Drivers should expect some delays and other traffic impacts during construction. Grant asked residents and motorists to be patient while the work is underway.
