Children and families participate in the Gadsden County Public Library System’s “Star-Spangled Sweets” event June 25 at the Havana library, where participants made homemade ice cream as part of a Fourth of July-themed celebration.

Children and families kicked off Independence Day festivities by making homemade ice cream during a patriotic program at the Havana branch of the Gadsden County Public Library System.

The library hosted its “Star-Spangled Sweets” event from 4 to 5:30 p.m. June 25 as part of a series held at library branches across Gadsden County. Similar programs were also scheduled in Quincy on June 26 and Chattahoochee on June 29.

Photos shared by the library show participants working together to make ice cream while enjoying a red, white and blue-themed celebration. Tables were decorated with patriotic tablecloths commemorating America’s 250th anniversary, and library staff guided children through the activity.

The event gave families an opportunity to celebrate the upcoming Fourth of July while participating in a hands-on summer program at the library.

The Gadsden County Public Library System regularly offers free educational and recreational programs for children and families throughout the county.
