Get ready to snap your fingers. This weekend will be your final chance to experience Quincy Music Theatre’s presentation of The Addams Family, a new musical comedy, during the new season.
Directed by Joe Svisco, the show is based on the gothic band of cartoon-strip characters created by Charles Addams for newsprint in The New Yorker.
Music and lyrics for The Addams Family were created by Andrew Lippa and the general book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice. All of the choreography is done by Vanessa Wray, and all music is directed by Stefanie Svisco. It is the first performance of the 2023-2024 season.
The main plot of the show concerns the Addams Family, one of the integral American families and gothic pre-cursors, as their centuries-old values face a head-on clash with the changing values of the times – and the changing of their children! Headquartering in Central Park, New York, the two solemn heads of house Gomez (Steven Woodell) and Morticia (Madeline Zucker) finds themselves teetering on the edge as Wednesday (Makaira Fisk), forever dark and macabre, finds herself infatuated with Lucas Beineke (Benjamin Britton), a simple and “normal” mid- western Ohio son.
On top of these grave circumstances, Wednesday, additionally, has invited the Beineke family over to the Addams house for an evening dinner.
The play during a single, hilarious night. Secrets are disclosed, the foundations upon which relationships are built are tested, and the bane of Gomez, Morticia, and the rest of the Addams family must be faced: change.
