Chattahoochee’s local alcohol laws may be changing.
The City of Chattahoochee’s council has announced a public hearing for Tuesday, February 1, in which the council will examine Ordinance Number 565 and Ordinance Number 566.
Both ordinances relate to local alcohol laws.
Ordinance Number 565 will be in regards to expanding the hours that alcohol may be sold by restaurants within the city limits.
The current ordinance states that local businesses may not serve or sell alcohol between the hours of 2 a.m. to 6 p.m.. on Sunday, and 2 – 7 a.m. on all other days.
According to the ordinance advertisement, the public hearing will discuss changing the ordinance to allow businesses to sell alcohol on Sundays, starting at noon (instead of 6 p.m.).
Ordinance Number 566 will be in regards to reducing the required distance between business and churches in order for the business to sell alcohol.
Currently, city ordinance states that a business that plans to sell alcohol must be located 500 feet away from any church.
During the February 1 meeting, the council will discuss lowering the required distance from 500 feet, to 200 feet.
The ordinance will not change the required distance that a business selling alcoholic beverages must be located from an educational facility – which is currently 1,000 feet.
The meeting to discuss the changes will be discussed at the Chattahoochee City Hall Council Chambers, which is located at 22 Jefferson Street, Chattahoochee.
The city council will meet at 6:30 p.m.
The public is welcome to attend the meeting and voice their opinions on the change, and any individual who may need special assistance (due to disability) during the meeting is asked to notify the Chattahoochee City Clerk’s office at (850) 633-4046.
