Festive cheer blooms with December Yards Of The Month

It’s December, and the Havana Garden Club has selected two local lawns to be the final Yards of the Month for the 2022 year.

Havana residents and business owners have been hard at work, resisting cool temperatures and keeping a festive spirit of gardening and decorating around their homes.

Each month, the Havana Garden Club selects a residential and commercial Yard of the Month – awarding the lawn-owners and gardeners with a full month of compliments as one of Havana’s most spectacular gardens.

The local resident who was applauded as the Residential Yard of the Month awardees were Julius and Freda Harris of Still Water Lane; Julius Harris is the pastor of New Jerusalem Church.

The garden club says that the couple has been in their Havana home for roughly a year, have since then kept their lawn looking beautiful and tidy.

“We admired their well kept yard and their dramatic Christmas decorations,” said Dianne Croley, with the garden club’s Yard of the Month selection committee.

The award for Commercial Yard of the Month went to A Touch of Class Florist at 103 North Main Street, in downtown Havana.

“This adorable cottage is particularly charming at Christmas with its red bows and poinsettias,” added Croley.

The florist’s manager, Dawn Walker, is the one responsible for the cheerful holiday decor this December.

The Havana Garden Club is currently accepting nominations for future Yards of the Month.

Nominations can be either for the commercial or residential award.

If you would like to nominate someone, or yourself, for the Yard of the Month awards, call Dianne Croley at (850) 539-8191.

The nominated yard (residential or commercial) must be within the 32333 zip code.
