Big wheels keep on burning – Amazon Prime semi tractor-trailer catches fire in Midway.

An Amazon Prime tractor trailer burst into flames at a Midway gas station earlier this week.

The fire was reported on Sunday, July 16 shortly before 5 p.m.

A call was received by the Midway Fire Department reporting a smoking semi tractor-trailer located at one of the gas pumps at Flying J’s Travel Center on Blue Star Highway.

The smoking tractor-trailer exacerbated into a blazing fire engulfing the cab, which was completely destroyed.

The back trailer, which carried Amazon Prime packages, was left undamaged.

Officials confirmed no one was injured.

Damage, however, was sustained to the roof of the gas pumping station and the two gas pumps located on both sides of the vehicle.

During the fire, all diesel gas pumps were shut down and the section for truck diesel fuel was partitioned off while the fire was being extinguished.

The four pumps that sustained damage currently remain unusable.

An inspector is being brought in by Flying J’s to analyze the damage to the roofs and pumps, which will be repaired and replaced.

The Quincy and Gretna Fire Departments assisted in handling the fire, which was under control by 5:20 p.m.

Chad Hardy, Assistant Chief of the Midway Fire Department, was the first person on the scene, followed by Didi Johnson, who is also an assistant chief.

Jim Roberts of the Quincy Fire Department was on the scene helping lead the assistance.

The Midway Police Department and Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office were also on site.

According to the Midway Fire Department, the cause of the fire is still unknown and is currently under investigation.
