Direct Auto Exchange gives 400 meals to families in need

Hundreds of families received an early Thanksgiving blessing in Havana last week.

Cars were lined up for miles–past Dollar General on the south end of town–as Tyrone Davis, owner of Direct Auto Exchange car dealership in Tallahassee, gave out 400 Thanksgiving dinners to families in need through his community outreach initiative.

“Ham or turkey?” Davis, who is a Havana native, asked as each vehicle pulled up to tents in Havana Town Hall’s parking lot on Wednesday, Nov. 15 for the drive-thru food giveaway.

In addition to their choice of ham or turkey, each family received a reusable shopping bag filled with all of the fixings, and a 12-pack of sodas.

“I’m financially in a burden. I do have a roof over my head and I’m thankful. I am so thankful that they’re giving out food for the holidays that I probably would not have been able to get,” Felicia Gaines said as she waited in her car.

Some waited in line for hours to receive the groceries.

Direct Auto Exchange provided grilled hotdog meals to those in the cars as they waited in line, as a DJ spun lively tunes.
