Sneads man arrested, charged with sexually abusing child in his care

A Sneads man accused of sexually abusing a child in his care was arrested this past week in Orange County.

Anthony Rex Edge, 51, is facing multiple charges after police say he sexually abused an 11-year-old child. Edge was arrested January 11 at an Orange County hotel and is currently in jail, awaiting extradition back to Jackson County, local authorities report.

Edge’s arrest stems from a report received by Jackson County law enforcement that states Edge had abused an 11-year-old child approximately a year prior to the date of the report – December 21, 2018. The abuse occurred while Edge was acting as caregiver to the child, the report states.

Edge allegedly exposed himself to the child, photographed the child in sexual positions, showed the child pornographic videos and paid the child for sexual favors, court documents state.

Edge’s residence is in Sneads, but he often works in Orange County, according to law enforcement. The U.S. Marshal’s Service Fugitive Task Force assisted in Edge’s arrest.

Edge is charged with lewd and lascivious battery, two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation, lewd and lascivious conduct and lewd and lascivious exhibition.

Additional charges could be forthcoming as the ongoing investigation unfolds, authorities say.
