Sports Rundown: Pirates crush conference rival Wewahitchka Gators; Jaguars shut out by Seminoles and Bobcats fall hard against Aucilla Christian

Pirates vs. Gators
The Pirates of Sneads High School crushed the Wewahitchka Gators 45-6 in a home conference game this past Friday night.

The Pirates won by the same score the last time these two teams played. With the victory, Sneads improved its record to 5-1, while the Gators dropped to 3-4 on the season. Sneads led the Gators 13-0 at the end of the first quarter and 27-0 at halftime.

The shutout continued through the end of the third quarter, when the Pirates were up 39-0. The two teams traded fourth-quarter touchdowns.

Sneads coach Bill Thomas named junior running back/defensive back Seth Scott as his player of the week. Scott rushed for 125 yards on four carries with two rushing touchdowns as well as leading the team on defense with 12 tackles (five solo and seven assisted).

Sophomore running back Calvin Stringer was named offensive player of the week for rushing for 246 yards on 13 carries and scoring three rushing touchdowns.

Senior free safety D’Angelo Manbeck is defensive player of the week and senior utility man Anthony Terry got the special teams honors.

The Pirates will host the Lighthouse Private Christian Academy Stingrays from Pensacola Friday. The Stingrays enter the game 2-3.

Jags vs. ‘Noles
The Gadsden County Jaguars got blown out in a home loss to the Florida High Seminoles, 45-8.

The Seminoles scored on their first play from scrimmage and – after a Jaguar answer – went on to put on an offensive show to wipe out the Jaguars. Gadsden High’s touchdown came on a one-yard scoring plunge by quarterback Jaelin Williams.

Top plays in the drive were 26- and 39-yard pass plays from Williams to Koleion Rich. Rich also ran in a two-point conversion.

The 0-5 Gadsden High team plays at 1-4 Marianna Friday.

Cats vs Warriors
Robert F. Munroe stayed close to a highly-rated Aucilla Christian football team last Friday evening in Monticello before falling 25-14.

The Bobcats scored first when Stephen Burdick tackled a Warrior runner in the end zone giving Munroe a safety. C.J. McMillan returned the ensuing kickoff for 73 yards and a touchdown putting Munroe up 8-0. Aucilla scored the next four touchdowns to take a 25-6 lead.

Munroe got the last score of the game when Xavier Gray ran in a touchdown from two yards out.

The 1-4 Bobcats will host Pataula Charter (1-5) out of Edison, Georgia Friday night at Corry Field in Quincy.

Sneads volleyball splits two matches
The Sneads High girls’ volleyball team split its two matches this week to send its season record to 15-5.

On Monday, the Pirates lost to Chiles 3-1 by scores of 23-25, 15-25, 25-21 and 21-25. On Tuesday, Sneads shutout Marianna 3-0 by scores of 25-11, 25-10, 25-17.

Sneads travels to Blountstown today at 5 p.m. CDT to take on the 17-4 Tigers, before playing in a tournament in Lake Butler on Saturday – where the Pirates will play Lafayette and Union County.

Sneads will get its chance for revenge against Chiles Monday at 4 p.m. EST in the Pirates’ last game of the regular season.

Sneads High School Player of the Week: Seth Scott
Seth Scott rushed for 125 yards on four carries with two rushing touchdowns, as well as leading the team on defense with 12 tackles (five solo and seven assisted), making him the Pirates Player-of-the-Week.

Gadsden County High School Player of the Week: Jaelin Williams
Jaelin Williams had 151 yards passing and scored Gadsden High’s only touchdown on a one-yard plunge in the Jaguars 45-8 loss to Florida High Friday night, making him the Jaguars Player-of-the Week.

Robert F. Munroe Player of the Week: DeAntonio Williams
DeAntonio Williams a sophomore offensive lineman stood out in his blocking schemes in Friday night’s Munroe 25-14 loss to Aucilla. He then turned around and help shore up the defensive linemaking him the Bobcats Player-of-the-Week.
