Summer reading brings universe-sized smiles

Library kicks off hot summer with sweet frozen treats

Our summer reading program is in full swing at the Gadsden County Public Library.

To kick off the program, each child who signed up for the program was entered in a raffle to win a prize. A total of seven prizes were given away to those lucky readers. Readers are encouraged to return to the library each week with their reading log to report their weekly reading for weekly prizes. One of the weekly prizes is a taco bell gift certificate where readers can get a burrito and taco just for reading that week!

If your child has not yet signed up for the summer reading program, remember it’s not too late to stop by their local library for the reading log and jump right into the program.

Our annual ice cream social was a success! At each location, the Gadsden County Public Library provided our patrons with a variety of ice cream flavors and toppings, and we topped the time off with leis and tropical tunes. Our next ice cream social will be around the same time next year, and we hope to have an even bigger turn out.

In addition to our ongoing summer reading program, our youth service librarian, Kris Odahowski will also be having daily programs at each branch location. Our Lego Robotics lab is back this summer! Kids will have the opportunity to participate in this program at all three branch locations. Please visit or call your local library to register for the program.

Most of these programs will be hosted by Ms. Kris and a special guest. So far, we’ve had our Tiny Docs Academy with Nurse Sharena and kids learned about the medical field and healthy habits with fun and hands on activities and our Phil Meyer Magic Show with his universe of stories.

Movies at the Gadsden County Public Library is an ongoing program where patrons are invited to enjoy a movie and light refreshments. These will be shown periodically throughout the summer at all three branches. Please visit your local library or our website for further details.

Story Time and Play Group will continue at the Havana branch library at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, respectively (except for Tuesday, June 23). Please stop by the Havana Public Library at 11 a.m. to “Sing with Miss Anna (Westcoat)” for our live music program.

Also in Havana is our free Chair Yoga program on Fridays. Patrons are encouraged to check our website for the exact dates.

In our Quincy William “Bill” McGill branch, our Junior Maker’s Table will continue. Our younger patrons will have the opportunity to make crafts with our Lead Librarian, Miss Gail. These crafts generally take around one hour to complete. Our Junior Maker’s Table will be held on Tuesdays, and you can find the specific days by visiting our website and viewing the calendar. At the Chattahoochee Cowen branch, our young patrons will experience Fan Fest. At Fan Fest, patrons can expect giveaways, games, and crafts related to some of their favorite book characters. Our young patrons can expect the Cowen branch to have more space related programs over the summer.

We are so excited for all of our summer programs. Expect many of last year programs to come back, as well as some newer one. Stop by your local library for a programming schedule of everything planned for this summer at all three branch locations. Don’t forget to stop by your local library each week to report your readings for your weekly prize.
