Death of a child leads to Quincy investigation

The Quincy Police Department is investigating the death of a child.

According to a press release from the Quincy Police Department, a 9-1-1 call was received from Arbor Crest Apartments in Quincy on Thursday, January 12.

The call came in around 2:30 p.m.

The department’s spokesman Investigator Zach Woods confirmed a child was found unresponsive and was later pronounced deceased at HCA Florida Gadsden Emergency Room.

Since the deceased is a minor and due to Marsy’s Law, Woods could not release any identifying information about the child.

“We are actively investigating this incident as a suspicious death, due to the age of the child,” Wood said. Currently, we are not releasing many details as we do not want to compromise the investigative process.”

Wood said the department hopes to hold a press conference regarding the incident, at some point in the weeks to come, at which time they will be able to provide more information to the public.

The Quincy Police Department Diversified Investigations Unit and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are investigating the incident collaboratively.
